Sion-Panvel Highway Octroi Check Post

Bougainvillea. A flowering plant made for Mumbai.

Braving the soot and dust from the traffic, heat from above and from the surrounding concrete, and the non-stop noise, this plant on the highway divider outside the Octroi Naka is not just tough, it can add colour to the most oppressive environment. Made in South America but at home in Mumbai.

You can't miss them right now. They are in full bloom, and can be seen all over town at the moment.

Bougainvillea....is truly a metaphor for a successful lifeform. The more stress it is subjected to, the better it flowers (it flowers best in drought ridden places) and what's more intriguing is that, the pink blossoms which we see are not in reality their flowers but are modified 'bracts'.Deceptive yet beautiful....

Special summer flower relief when the drive is long on the National Highway.

Beautiful... No leaves, but the flowers make up for it. Bougenvillas are made to cheer uphe human heart, even during hot and mucky summers.

I love them, they are my favourite flowers... for the colour and lightness and ability to grow in the heat and dust and about anywhere. :-) :-)
modified bracts... interesting.
and the night pic is very unusual. cheers! :-)
