The Josh Spot of Pyar Galli
Unlike most other cities in India, if lovers want to hug and kiss in a public place, it's chalta hain in Mumbai. There is a good possibility that the Mumbai couple making out before they catch the evening train home is happily married to each other with kids in school. It's just that they have zero privacy at home. Like it ot not, almost all of us live in crowded spaces.
There are tens of popular spots across the city that are crowded with lovers filling the air with the buzz of birds and bees but there's a quiet one hidden among them is the tree lined lane inside the Central Railway locomotive Workshop at Parel.
If you live in Lalbag - Parel, chances are that you live in a crowded one or two room house with your extended family. It's like living in that classic Sai Paranjpe movie called 'Katha' or the modern variation of concrete boxes next to a large tower. The Lover's Lane is a short walk away and conveniently located close to Elphinstone, Parel and Currey Road Stations. While most commuters hurry home after work or college, many choose to take this long, slow route home.
The lane is crowded with slow-walking couples every evening. A thoughtful NGO thought that it would be a good idea to install a condom vending machine called Josh Spot that you find at truck stops and terminals. Obviously this wasn't of much use for the lovers who come here to talk, fight, neck and kiss but had nowhere to go to after that.
