Vashi Gaon + APMC

New Statues in New Bombay.

The new statues that are come up in Vashi region of Navi Mumbai have none of the 70s and 80s style concrete vagueness built to entice the great Indian middle class dream. They are real people and connected to another set of the people who live and work there.

The first one is in the middle of original Vashi Gaon which has fishermen who live and work there. And the second one is in the APMC. near the grain market saluting what load bearers. Celebrating the two of the most important commercial activities that define Vashi.

The fisherman statue is interesting because though he looks like a surfer but the sea in Vashi is not like the rough ones you see down the coast and across the subcontinent on the east coast. You don't have to cross the big waves to reach the sea. The fishermen fish in the protected creek with a mangrove forest that extends into the sea.

Pictures of one of the boat maker in Vashi.

And here are some people who lift weights all day long in their stylish headgear.
