Now that the closure of Strand bookshop in Mumbai has been announced we should probably look at how the bookshops and readers made Church Street, Bangalore as a destination for people who read and helped save bookshops there survive. ( I don't know how well they are doing)
It is impossible for bookshops to win against Amazon and people who no longer buy physical books. But the truth is that more books are consumed in the digital age and there is always place for old fashioned reading experience and the joy of discovery in a bookshop. Maybe Church Street place branding model led by people online is one way forward.
How can we kick-start a campaign like that?
