Mumbai Bookshelves: Storyteller Priyanka Borpujari's shelf.

Priyanka has very Mumbai bookshelf with just the right amount of books that a Mumbai home can house! It was made with love by a friendly carpenter who is making ir chakachak and dust proof when I happened to meet her and her mother in their home in Kalina.

A Bombay girl with roots on Assam, most of you would have read her stories in Mumbai Mirror where she used to be crime reporter in the last decade. Today, she writes stories from India for the international press and she travels around the world collecting stories that we should see far more often than we see them in our newspapers and website today.

You can read her latest stories from around the world here: Priyanka Borpujari's Stories

Topi lagaya kya?
We in Mumbai do not wear headgear anymore unlike this Milliner who has flown in from Melbourne to visit the Mahalaxmi Race Course on Race Days. He is here as part of a Victoria State Trade team with colourful stories from in and around the Emirates Melbourne Cup to make friends with the rich and powerful in India. He will woo the women and girls of the ones who wear many hats. Mallya perhaps? Australian Milliners, we have many who have perfected the topi pehanao-ing here in India, in style.

But we do have the most interesting headgear here in India, especially Rajasthan and parts of Gujarat. If you can visit the Lad Musuem at Byculla with its superb collection of little dolls or statues of people of Mumbai from over a hundred years back, you will notice that almost everyone wore some form of headgear depending on the community or guild they belonged to.

Here's a trade that still continues the headgear tradition: ear cleaners of South Mumbai. And yes, the occasional Vasudev you encounter on the streets.

Coming back to hats, the biggest collection of stylish headgear in Mumbai for women will be at the Mahalaxmi racecourse. I'm sure it's going to be better and more colourful this year.

Fashion blogger Bryan Boy was in Mumbai for Lakme Fashion Week and got mobbed by Mumbai's fashion bloggers.

Do you see 3D?

I didn't know that Mumbai had so many serious fashion bloggers!

Here are some of the blogs in particular fashion (and not all of them are in the above pics):

Indian Summer

Street Style

I have missed out many. Please do let me know their names, so that I can add it to the list.

The height of fashion: 5 Ft 7 1/2

Lakme Fashion Week minimum cut-off height is 5 feet 7 1/2 inches and this is just the first hurdle at the female model audition for the next edition of Mumbai's popular Fashion Week.

Surprising. The number of Indian models who were exactly 5. 7 1/2.

What are the other hurdles?

Read Aastha's look at the very clinical Lakme Fashion Week auditions here in this week's Tehelka.

Mumbai Style Inception

Zhopadcity: Wall Art at Grand Hyatt.

The basement of the Grand Hyatt hotel has no windows to the outside world. If that floor was lifted high enough and if windows were punched in, it would have provided a glimpse of the view all high rises in Mumbai have - the slums where the majority of the Mumbaikars live. But do not worry, they have installed large work by artists that has made the slums across the Mithi, on the walls of the hotel so that visitors know where the GPS points to at that moment - Zhopadcity.

Have-nots are voyeurs. The others appreciate beauty.

Same pinch. No water in Zhopadcity taps too.
