Sector 15 Market

Enemies of the cashless society.

The above headline is an exaggeration. The people in the picture are just petty vegetable sellers who can't afford to be part of the formal economy and trade in the grey area of our cities. They have buyers too and they are all of us.

These are pictures shot during a typical  raid by the corporation. A daily occurrence in any Indian city.  A part of the daily disruptions these people are are used to.

We all want them to enter the formal economy. But how do we do it?

Think about it. Until then, they are the enemies of the cashless society.

On Credit Account book in a local Kirana store

Easy OC.

Samosapedia says that the popular South Indian slang word OC stands for Others' Cost or getting something for free. But as far as I remember, the origin of OC is from the "On Credit" that is usually got at your local kirana stores. Those were the days before Credit Cards, Big Bazaars and FDI in the retail minefield.

Also noticed that my neighbourhood has lost almost all the local Kirana stores. The last decent sized one closed a few days back. The surviving one is a little one sells only perishable milk, soft drinks and potato chips.

We have a "More" close by. This is how we shop.
