Blue

On 23rd July, Mumbai went crazy about the blue sky and clear air. It was caused by a cyclonic circulation high up in the the sky. The day unfortunately was relatively hot.

The sky changed colours on 22nd itself. This how it looked

This was how the sky looked, early in the morning on 23rd.

The sea was its usual tea colour.

Fixing Things

Cyclone Vayu breezed past Mumbai and caused one death in the city. A few panels off a Mahatma Gandhi mural at the Churchgate station flew off and landed on the footpath below, killing an elderly man.

Along the same railway line in Goregaon, the change of win direction caused a sign of Dr Ambedkar to fly away too. As I was photographing the fallen hoarding, a man walked up to it. He patiently put it back and told me that there is hope in this country because of what he did.

Now that BJP is in power once again and all actions seem to be directed towards making the country a single party country with no opposition, he gives us hope.

Expanding city

Goregaon has been part the heavily settled part of Mumbai for a long time now coming a long way from when it was seen as a place to have the farms to supply milk to the city of Mumbai.

This photograph is from one of the towers next to Oberoi Mall. The Oberoi family has made a small section of Goregaon, their own now.

One of my friends from college grew up here in the late 70s and 80s before he moved to Bangalore in 1991. At that time, this place next to the Oberoi Mall was colony or quarters of a pharmaceutical company. It was surrounded with trees and semi-forested. It was an extension of the forest to the east.

View from the high rise in the above photographs.

The reason the homes that are high up are prized is because of the greenery to the east that still exists. It is something all politicians are eyeing to fill their family treasure chests.

BEST Canteen - Goregaon East

Does the smiley with a fork and spoon remind you of a driver wrestling with a steering wheel? Maybe it does because this is the art found in the canteen inside the BEST Bus Station in Goregaon East.

This canteen serves 'correct food' that is filling to the workers of the BEST organisation.

#MithaBolo (Linguistic map of Mumbai) My co passenger in a share rick to nearest local train station was reading Urdu poems someone young sent him on Whatsapp, of which he had a print out in his hand. They were debating Intensely & revising it before presenting it at a poet’s meet. He seems to belong to an interesting circle of wordsmiths from what I overheard.
