While passing this shop near Dhobi Talao i was reminded of a book I had read. If has an account of how the old Mysore state that merged with the Indian Union sold its popular products like sandalwood (and a scandal around it). The book is the memoirs by M. A. Sreenivasan (1897–1998) who was a minister in the Princely State of Mysore and was also Dewan of Gwalior. His memoirs could be found in Blossoms where I picked up a copy long back. He is also the grandfather of Srinivasan Jain of NDTV. Also, his account of his stint as Dewan of Gwalior is interesting and talks about his tryst with the rabid Hindutva elements there who went on to conspire to kill Mahatma Gandhi.
