Talaash! Which part of Mumbai do you want to see?

Republic Day seems to be the preferred day to launch newspapers, channels and websites in India, especially in an election year. One of the news source that was born this Republic Day was Firstpost’s weekly newspaper. It will fight for attention with other magazines and since it’s a weekly newspaper, will have an edge when it comes to price. It is priced at Rs 8.

It’s always a pleasure to read a first or the first few issues of a new newspaper or magazine. It is raw and expresses the intention of the publisher and editor. Firstpost however doesn’t have anything new to say but have used a better and wider pool of contributors to pack a lot of punch into these pages. It would’ve worked in the good old days like how India Today made an impact when it was launched. However, we are now in 2019 and the battle FirstPost has is against our reading and content consuming habits. That is not in favour of a newspaper weekly.

Like Krishna Prasad of Churumuri pointed out in a tweet today with respect to the Rafale story, when the news is printed in an established newspaper (The Hindu) it seems to carry more weight and has a larger impact than on an online news source (Wire) which is probably why they have started this weekly newspaper.
